Southchurch was an independent parish until 1894, when it became part of Southend-on-Sea. Its history, however, can be traced back to the 9th century when it was recorded that Southchurch Manor was presented to the local monks.

There are three primary schools in Southchurch as well as a grammar school for girls and a college. Southchurch community has several health centres/surgeries nearby as well as dentists and an osteopath.

Links to London are direct via the renamed ‘Southend East for Southchurch Village’ rail station and bus services link to Southend as well as the surrounding towns.

There are plenty of local shops in Southchurch, some ‘corner shops’ located within the neighbourhood and a large shopping area with small businesses, boutiques, restaurants, pubs and grocery stores in Southchurch Road.
