Who knew that Jeremy Clarkson was related to Paddington Bear? It seems that Jeremy’s mother, Shirley is renowned for sewing up Paddington Bears in the kitchen of ‘Homefarm’ where they lived in the 1970’s.
It’s always good for us at Bear Estate Agents to find out where our brother bears hang out. On Rightmove, we can view the Clarkson’s previous 16th century home. It is situated in Burghwallis in Yorkshire amongst beautiful countryside with amazing views. The grade 11 listed house is certainly fit for a Paddington Bear, with its long driveway, fireplaces and oak beamed ceilings.
Shirley Clarkson came up with the original design for Paddington Bear with its hat, wellingtons and raincoat. The very first bear was made for Jeremy Clarkson! Shirley has written about her Paddington Bear experience in her book, ‘Bearly Believable: My Part in the Paddington Bear Story. It tells of how the business rose from a spare room at Burghwallis to shipping Paddington Bears all over the world, before it collapsed and started over again. At one point, 50,000 bears had to be recalled because they had faulty eyes!
For many it’s a step too far to imagine Clarkson with his Paddington, but for others, it’s not a stretch of the imagination to see Clarkson himself as a big, cuddly, growly bear!
